A new play area will open in time for the school summer holidays, Spelthorne Borough Council says.

New play equipment and spaces for children and teenagers will open in Staines Park from 21 July alongside new social seating areas for children and families.

The project has been funded by Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds, a fee usually paid by developers to councils which can be used to invest in infrastructure public amenities.

John Turner, chair of the council's environment committee, said: "This fantastic new play area will provide an exciting, inclusive and accessible space where children of all ages and abilities can play, explore and make memories together."

He added: "Thanks to Community Infrastructure Levy funding, we've been able to invest in one of our valued green spaces and create a facility that families will enjoy for many years to come."

Following the completion of the project, the play area will be maintained by Spelthorne Borough Council, it said.

The council added that the play area had been designed with accessible paths for children, parents and carers.
