Fire crews tackle blaze at recycling site
Don GregoryFire crews are tackling a blaze at a recycling facility and landfill site in Wraysbury.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said 12 pumps were deployed at about 02:30 BST to Fowles Skip Hire on Hythe End Road, Wraysbury, Berkshire, which is near to Staines in Surrey.
The service has advised residents to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke. It added that Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which provided 10 pumps, was leading the response.
Resident Don Gregory said the flames were "higher than the surrounding trees".
Don GregoryGregory added another resident had heard a "huge explosion" at about 03:00.
Gregory noticed no water pressure at 07:00 and went to the site after his daughter had reported the fire.
He said the fire service was just containing the fire from spreading.
"It was too deep in wood pile to extinguish," he said.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
