Zoe Ball hopes the event will encourage the over-50s to change their morning routine

Zoe Ball has hosted a morning rave designed exclusively for those over the age of 50.

Club Breakfast saw Jo Whiley perform for a one-off DJ set, giving former 90s clubgoers a chance to dance in a more accessible, daytime setting.

The event was aimed at those born before 1975, with guests being "reverse-ID'd" on the door, organisers said.

"It's looking for opportunities to get out and enjoy yourself a little bit, because the opportunities are not there so much for us when we're over 50," presenter Zoe Ball told BBC Radio Sussex.

The event, in Soho on Saturday, came after research from Kellogg's revealed that a third of over-50s said they had never had a proper dance and that 31% said that they had not danced in the last five years or more.

When asked why they did not dance more often, 17% of individuals highlighted the lack of opportunity and 13% said the fear of judgement.

Ball said that the breakfast-filled event aimed to "give everyone an opportunity" to loosen up and enjoy themselves.

"What we're trying to do is just encourage people to adopt a bit of dancing in their lives again, because it's so good for you and it can make such a difference," she said.

Ball added that she hoped the event would encourage people to change their morning routine.

She said: "If you start your day with a nice full belly and you have a little dance in the kitchen, that movement is already bringing up your heart rate.

"It's quite joyful and you're going to walk out the house with a little bit more swagger."
