Man arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill
BBCPolice who arrested a man after concerns circulated on social media have warned people about speculating, saying some online comments made about the arrest have been "borderline hysterical" and "unacceptable".
Guernsey Police said its officers had arrested a 35-year-old man at a private property early on Sunday morning "on suspicion of making threats to kill". He remains in custody.
Chief Officer Damian Kitchen thanked members of the public who provided information which helped the investigation.
He added however "a huge amount of speculation took place on social media, some of which amounted to nothing more than misinformation".
Kitchen said: "I have been made aware, for example, of comments trying to link this incident and arrest to immigration issues and race.
"These comments are wholly inaccurate, borderline hysterical, and quite frankly unacceptable."
Kitchen also said there had been no immediate risk to the public. Guernsey Police said it was not looking for any other suspects in connection with the incident.
