A whole day dedicated to the Vikings will mark the start of the Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival - and celebrate 50 years of the Viking Way.

Taking place at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Horncastle, on Saturday, the free event will include re-enactments and living history displays

Councillor Adam Grist, of East Lindsey District Council, said the event was a "fantastic way to celebrate the Lincolnshire Wolds heritage".

The scheduled re-enactments will take place at 12:00 BST and 15:00.

There will also be a range of drop‑in outdoor activities, including a climbing wall, as well as soft archery, wilderness skills, laser clay pigeon shooting and face painting.

The Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival begins on Saturday and runs until 31 May.

The local authority said it was designed to show how accessible outdoor activities can be for local people.

Events taking place include glider flights, vineyard tours, foraging, stream dipping and a variety of guided walks.
