Plans to demolish mill for family homes submitted

An old mill complex could be demolished to make way for family homes, under plans to be considered by Bradford Council.

Wadsworth Mill, in Oxenhope, would be knocked down and replaced with 22 houses, under the proposals.

The site, on Jew Lane, is currently owned and occupied by a company which makes metal springs.

A planning application submitted to the council said the prospect of converting the mill complex into housing had been considered, but that the structural condition of the buildings was "so poor", demolition was believed to be necessary.

The application added that simply converting the premises without knocking the buildings down was "not practically achievable".

Under the scheme, seven of the homes would be two-bed houses, with 12 of them three-bed properties. The remaining three would be four-bed homes.

The application said that the complex had been in use for "engineering purposes" since the mid-19th Century.

It added that the reconstruction of the site would "retain the appearance of the range of mill buildings and therefore reflect the history of the site".

A decision on the proposal is expected to be made later this year.
