Mum and daughter attempt banger race to Benidorm

A mother and daughter duo have said they are attempting to drive in a banger rally from the UK to Benidorm.

Loredana Romano told the BBC she and her mum are driving to Spain - in a convertible Audi they haggled for £500 - to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

She said several celebrities, including Peter Andre, Chesney Hawkes and Phil Tufnell, have signed their vehicle, which will be auctioned off afterwards to boost their fundraising efforts.

"We are absolutely buzzing," Loredana told the BBC ahead of the trip.

"We get on each other's nerves, but we're both quite funny together," added her mother Maria.

Loredana said although they were "really, really close" she was looking forward to spending non-work-related time together since the pair manage their Spaghetti Tree Restaurants across Surrey.

But she joked: "I am going to bring a roll of duct tape to put over mum's mouth in case she drives me mad while driving".

They said they will be documenting their journey on social media.

"It's going to be quite an emotional journey as well," said Loredana.

"We've lost a lot of people through Alzheimer's," added Maria. "It's such a cruel disease."

"We want to use this challenge to raise as much money and awareness as possible," said Loredana.

The duo said they were going to pack on Sunday night before setting off first thing on Monday.

"I am not sure what happens if we break down," said Maria.

"We'll cross that bridge when it comes to it," added her daughter Loredana.
