Inspectors praise 'exceptional' home care provider

A care service has been praised by inspectors for giving "exceptional" support to people in their own homes.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) upgraded the rating of Crossroads Barnsley Limited from good to outstanding, following visits in April and May.

The CQC said staff were kind and caring, understood people's needs and went the extra mile to ensure they were happy.

Crossroads CEO Joseph David said staff remained "fully committed to providing compassionate, person-centred care and continually improving the quality of support we deliver".

The report from the CQC revealed that Crossroads was providing home care services to 66 people at the time of the inspection.

It concluded that Crossroads had a strong understanding of local needs and took effective action to improve outcomes for people and the wider community.

Crossroads had developed inclusive community spaces and support services for people who may otherwise struggle to access help, such as a community cafe.

Inspectors said the projects ensured that people from different backgrounds, including those with complex needs or limited prior engagement, could access support in ways that suited their circumstances.

One family told inspectors they were grateful to Crossroads Barnsley for the support and ongoing training they had provided to their relative.

They said: "Through their patience, understanding and genuine care they have taken time to see [the person's] true potential.

"The life skills they have developed through their support have made a real difference to their independence and wellbeing, and to us as a family.

"Their compassion and commitment truly changes lives, and we cannot thank them enough."
