Police investigate woman's death after burglary

Detectives are investigating the death of a 75-year-old woman who died following an aggravated burglary at her north London home.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of an incident at the address in Tollington Park, Finsbury Park at about 21:20 BST on Tuesday.

The woman, along with an 81-year-old man, was taken to hospital. The woman died the following day, while the man was discharged.

Detectives are awaiting post-mortem results to establish how the woman died and said that inquiries were continuing "at pace" to find out what happened. No arrests have been made.

A crime scene remains in place at the address and along nearby Evershot Road as well as an increased police presence, the Met said.

Det Ch Insp Ben Massink, who is leading the investigation, said his team was working hard to "pursue all lines of inquiry".

"We thank those who have already come forward to provide witness accounts, and appeal for anyone with information or doorbell footage to come forward.

"We believe a number of residents in the area will have key information that could help inform our investigation."

He added: "No detail is too small."

Supt Mark Hambleton, a policing lead in the area, said: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.

"We recognise the concern this will cause locally, and can reassure the community that officers are working tirelessly to determine what happened.

"There will be an increased police presence in place while inquiries continue and we thank the public for their understanding at this time."
