Two people have been taken to hospital with "potentially life-threatening" stab wounds following reports of a serious assault.

Police were called to Fountains Close, Willesborough, in Ashford, Kent, at 07:45 BST, where a 61-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman were found injured.

The Kent force said the man was taken to a local hospital while the woman was taken to a London hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.

It is understood the man and woman are known to each other and police are not searching for any outstanding suspects.

A spokesperson said officers remained at the scene while inquiries continued.
