Waste site fire believed to be accidental
Jamie KoowareeA blaze at an industrial waste site in Kent which had to be tackled overnight is believed to have been started accidentally, the fire service has said.
Ten fire engines were at the site near Brunswick Road, in Ashford, at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday and people in the area were urged to keep windows and doors shut due to the smoke.
Six fire engines, a vehicle allowing crews to work from height, a bulk water carrier and a specialist firefighting robot were at the scene on Wednesday morning. By midday, they were dampening down the remaining hotspots.
No injuries were reported and the surrounding roads had been reopened, Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said.
People in the area are still being urged to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke.
KFRS said it expected the advice to be in place for all of Wednesday.
