Man charged after assault on two police officers

A man has been charged following an assault on two police officers in Londonderry.

Police attended a report of an ongoing fight involving two men shorty before 21:30 BST in Sackville Street, Derry.

Two officers sustained hand and arm injuries as a result.

The 19-year-old is charged with two counts of assault on police, two counts of resisting police and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

He is also charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist apprehension and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police say the teenager had been behaving in an aggressive manner towards officers, during which a bottle he was holding smashed.

He is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Monday 20 April.
