Charge after hot water thrown over man at courthouse

A man has been charged after another man suffered serious burns when a kettle of boiling water was thrown over him at a courthouse.

The incident happened at Strabane Magistrates' Court, County Tyrone, on Thursday morning.

The 34-year-old has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The victim, who suffered burns to his face, neck and shoulders, was initially taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The suspect is due to appear at Dungannon Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
