Mountain Road cycling ban ahead of racing return

A ban on cycling on the Isle of Man's Mountain Road is set to come into force for the duration for the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT races.

The restriction will be in place on the A18 between Ramsey Hairpin and the Creg Ny Baa from 09:30 BST on Friday until 16:30 on 31 August. The road is a major route between the north of the Isle of Man and the capital, Douglas.

The Isle of Man Constabulary said "multiple people" had been arrested for flouting the ban during the TT period in June despite clear signage in place.

"Please follow the signs and instructions in place, they are there to protect you and others," the force added.

The ban on cycling on the mountain section of the 37.7-mile (67km) TT course during racing events was first introduced almost a decade ago.

Although the stretch is made one-way during June's TT races each year, the road remains two-way during the August event.

The opening qualifying session for the 2026 Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT takes place on Sunday afternoon, with the event due to continue until 28 August.
