Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds has called the Isle of Man "one of the best-kept secrets" after visiting this week.

The star, best known for Deadpool and the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, posted about his trip on Instagram, after fans met him in Douglas on Thursday.

In his post, Reynolds is seen at various locations, including at watchmaker Roger Smith's workshop.

Reynolds wrote: "What a gorgeous place to live. Nicest people, a dose of perfect weather and home to one of the world's greatest watchmakers."

Roger Smith was the one and only apprentice of master horologist George Daniels.

'An honour'

He has run Britain's only fully handmade-watch business, with wife Caroline and his team of watchmakers in Sulby, for 25 years.

Reynolds said it was "truly an honour to meet him".

Responding to the post, the watchmaker said it was "great to welcome you to the workshop" and added he "did a great job on the straight line engine".

The specific reason for Reynolds' visit to the Isle of Man has not been confirmed.

Reynolds also took photos in front of the Tower or Refuge in Douglas bay.

The tower was built in 1832 by RNLI founder Sir William Hilary as a shelter for the crews of vessels wrecked on the nearby reef.

Reynolds also snapped the 126-year-old Gaiety Theatre, and referenced Downton Abbey, joking about the glare in his photograph.

He said: "I believe it was Violet, the Dowager Countess who said 'oh, dear, such a glare. I feel as if I were on stage at The Gaiety.' Damn straight, Countess."

His visit comes after a number of high-profile Hollywood names have been seen on the island in 2026.

Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum were spotted earlier this year during production of an Amazon Prime film, while Keanu Reeves also visited during the Isle of Man TT Races.
