Simon Beston died three weeks after being attacked in Newcastle

Three people have been charged following the death of a man in a city centre last year.

Simon Beston sustained serious head injuries in an altercation on St Andrew's Street in Newcastle on 26 July 2025, Northumbria Police said

The 55-year-old died in hospital on 16 August.

Ethan Cockram, 20 and from Wallsend, has been charged with manslaughter, while a 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman have been charged with affray. All three have been released on bail to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court in August.

Det Insp Ashley Loader said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with Simon's family and loved ones following the events of that night."

Two other individuals who were arrested at the time in connection with the alleged assault have been released with no further action, the force said.
