Crews remain at the scene of the fire near Marsden

A moorland fire has broken out near Wessenden Reservoir on the outskirts of Huddersfield.

Crews were called to the blaze near Marsden on Thursday evening and remained at the scene overnight before resuming operations at about 05:00 BST, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said.

Seven fire engines and specialist wildfire support teams remained on the moor as of 11:00.

Writing on social media, residents reported a strong smell of smoke around Honley, Brockholes and Meltham.

The fire service urged people to avoid the area.
