Pub could be demolished under proposal for flats

A Surrey pub could soon be knocked down to make way for a block of nine flats and commercial space.

Plans have been submitted to Elmbridge Borough Council to demolish The Grove pub in Walton-on-Thames, which has been empty since 2018.

The proposed scheme, submitted by Terrace Ventures, would feature new business premises on the ground level, with residential space for nine new flats on the floors above, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The developer said that the new building would be "a modern and attractively designed building that enhanced the street frontage".

Planning documents said that the scheme had been designed to reflect its location between the town centre and nearby housing, with commercial frontages at street level and a more residential appearance on the upper floors.

A car park for the commercial unit would also be built behind the property, accessed from The Grove.

No parking spaces are proposed for the flats, planning documents added.

Elmbridge Borough Council officers earmarked the 6 November as the target date for a decision.
