People rescued from flats after suspected arson

The police believe the fire at the building in Coleraine was started deliberately

Firefighters have rescued a number of people trapped in a block of flats after a suspected arson attack.

The fire at Society Street in Coleraine, County Londonderry, was reported to police shortly before 01:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it is believed to have been started in a communal area inside the building.

No one was injured.

The police said other occupants were evacuated from their flats until it was considered safe to return.

Detectives have asked anyone who noticed any suspicious activity to contact them.
