Man in court charged with murder after fatal fire

A man charged with the murder of a 75-year-old woman who died in a Wakefield house fire has appeared in court.

Joshua Hodlin is accused of murdering Shirley Hodlin, who was killed in the fire on Yew Tree Walk, Knottingley, on 5 July.

The 23-year-old, of Harewood Avenue, Pontefract, appeared at Leeds Crown Court earlier via videolink and did not enter a plea.

His next hearing is on 7 September and he was remanded into custody.
