Murder charge over fatal house fire

Police were called to Yew Tree Walk in Knottingley on Sunday

A man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in a house fire in Knottingley.

West Yorkshire Police said Shirley Hodlin, 75, was killed in the blaze in Yew Tree Walk on Sunday evening.

Joshua Hodlin, 23, has been charged with her murder, a police spokesperson said.

Hodlin, of Harewood Avenue, Pontefract, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court earlier, where he was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Monday. No pleas were entered.
