Residents have been warned to keep windows and doors closed after a large fire at a recycling centre in Leicester.

Smoke spotted in the Freeman's Common area in the early hours of Thursday led fire crews to a blaze involving two skips at the centre in Islington Street.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was tackled by crews using hoses and wearing breathing apparatus and was contained by 02:40 BST.

The service added: "Please keep doors and windows closed and stay clear of the area!"
