A manure heap fire had been extinguished but would continue to smoulder for a few days, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Crews were called to a field on Hannington Lane in Walgrave at about 18:45 BST on Wednesday.

The service said it had dampened down hotspots and created a firebreak to stop the blaze spreading but advised people living nearby to keep windows and doors shut if they were still affected by smoke.

In a social media update, it said: "The fire is expected to continue smouldering over the next few days and is being monitored by crews."

"The smoke plume has now significantly reduced since it started, but nearby residents who are still affected should continue to keep windows and doors closed," the post continued.
