Key road closures announced for Liberation Day
BBCOrganisers of Guernsey's Liberation Day celebrations have announced a series of road closures for the event in St Peter Port.
People have been encouraged to use alternative, "active modes of transport" to help reduce congestion in the town centre.
Guernsey seafront will be closed all day for the event on 9 May, which marks the end of Guernsey's Nazi German occupation during World War Two.
Parking suspensions would also be put in place on Crown and Albert Pier from Wednesday 6 May until Monday 11 May to allow for the build of infrastructure, officials said.
'Abide by restrictions'
Key road closures include:
- The seafront from the Weighbridge roundabout to the Slaughterhouse roundabout
- Weighbridge roundabout will also be closed from 10:45 BST as the parade passes through and for a short time before 15:00 for the arrival of the Cavalcade
- Fountain Street for the whole day and La Vallette from 10:00 for the set-up of the fireworks display
- Pedestrian access will be available on the raised walkway until 15:00
- To allow for road closures, taxis will also run temporarily from The Albany and the end of Castle Emplacement, with the Town Church Square taxi rank closed on 9 May.
Parking restrictions would apply on areas other than the piers, including North Beach marina, from Thursday 7 May and Le Bordage from 18:00 on Friday 8 May, officials said.
Organisers also said they were encouraging people to read signage and abide by restrictions.
