Islanders attending Liberation Day in Guernsey have been encouraged to choose more active modes of transport this year to "ease pressure".

Organisers said alternative travel arrangements would help reduce congestion in the town centre.

More than 20,000 people attended the celebrations in 2025, which Deputy Andy Cameron said Liberation Day was "one of the busiest days in our calendar".

He said: "With large numbers heading into St Peter Port to celebrate, I would encourage everyone who can to consider travelling into town by cycling, using the free bus travel, or parking at one of the Park & Stride locations and walking in."

He added: "Choosing alternative transport where possible will help reduce congestion in the town centre, support a more sustainable approach to the day, and ease pressure for those who are unable to do the same."

Organisers said additional bicycle parking would be available at Havelet, The Albany (by the bus terminus), Le Bordage, North Beach and the Inter-Island Quay.

They added there would also be a free standard Saturday service on buses, including night buses, and would depart from Town Terminus.

Full information can be found on the Liberation Day website.
