Group searches for new constables and douzeniers

An event has been organised for any islanders interested in potentially becoming a constable or a douzenier.

The Douzaine Liaison Group, an informal sub-group of the Policy & Resources Committee, has arranged an open morning on Saturday between 10:00 BST and 12:00 at the Beau Sejour Centre in Amherst.

The group said ahead of the upcoming parish elections across Guernsey on 4 November, there were constable opportunities and more than 30 opportunities to become a douzenier.

Douzeniers and constables undertake a wide range of administrative and practical responsibilities, from attending monthly meetings to dealing with parish matters.

It said some of the island's current douzeniers, constables and parish representatives would be available to explain what the roles involved.

They would also be able to answer questions and provide information about the election process.

Many parishes also have sub-committees offering further opportunities to get involved in the community.

The group said no special qualifications or previous experience was required.

It said to be able to stand for election, people needed to live in the parish and be on the electoral roll.
