A temporary footbridge in Derby is set to be removed to allow the demolition of the original Darley Abbey Mills Bridge, which is at "high risk of collapse".

The bridge closed in May 2022 due to safety concerns and a temporary bridge, known as Walter's Walkway, was installed.

Derby City Council has confirmed Walter's Walkway, which was shut in December, would be removed this week.

The authority added the lower section of Old Lane would be closed to all vehicles until Sunday and confirmed there would be no pedestrian access during working hours.

A section of the river path from South Avenue to Old Lane will also be closed, the council said.

It added the one-way system in West Row would be reversed, and in Darley Street and New Road, it would be suspended to allow two-way traffic.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Please continue to stay away from the area.

"Security remains on site and the area will be fenced off and patrolled during the bridge lift.

"Thank you for your patience while we continue these vital works."
