A man has been charged with attempted murder after a pedestrian was seriously injured when a car mounted the pavement and struck him.

The 28-year-old pedestrian was walking on Condor Grove in Blackpool shortly before 03:00 BST when he was hit by a VW Passat, Lancashire Police said.

The force said he suffered significant injuries and remained in hospital.

Niall Reynolds, 23, of Glenmore Drive, Coventry, has also been charged with driving a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, and two offences of criminal damage and is due to appear before Lancaster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released under investigation pending further inquiries, police said.
