Multi-million pound sixth form centre ready to open

Major renovation work to create a new multi-million pound sixth form campus in Telford Town Centre has been completed.

The site, which is part of Telford College, was previously the council's Addenbrooke House offices.

The transformed campus, called Telford 6th, which includes science labs, a drama studio, and arts studio, has enabled the college to re-locate its A-Level courses to the town's Station Quarter.

Principal Lawrence Wood said: "For the first time ever students will have access to A-Level provision and state-of-the-art facilities right here in the heart of Telford & Wrekin, giving every young person the very best start".

The £9m development was funded by Telford & Wrekin Council and sits alongside The Quad, a digital skills hub that opened in September 2024.

The leader of the authority, Lee Carter, said the new site was in a "prime location and would be a "huge boost" to the college's existing offering.

The relocation of the college's A-Level provision to the central Telford location made the courses "more easily accessible from all parts of the borough," the local authority added.

"More than 500 young people currently travel outside of Telford and Wrekin for A-Level education but the new campus is walking distance from both the train and bus station in Telford Town Centre," it said.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, cabinet member for children, young people, education, employment and skills said: "The facility will give students a wider choice of qualifications and the skills and knowledge to secure future careers in different sectors which can lead to a bright future".

Chris Walker, building director for McPhillips which carried out the work, praised the development for being "a local project, built by local people, for local people".

Walker said 75% of its workforce lived within 20 miles of its Telford base.

Telford 6th will welcome its first students in September.
