Pilot injured at airshow is out of intensive care

A pilot who was left with life-changing injuries after an incident at an airshow has been released from intensive care.

The incident happened at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome in Purleigh, near Maldon, at about 14:30 BST on 16 August.

During a low-level display, one of The Turbulent Team's light aircraft was damaged and the pilot was injured, and the show was stopped.

Ian Flint, chief executive officer, said: "This was a distressing incident, and we are all relieved to hear that the pilot is continuing to recover."

"We continue to be extremely thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, both online and in person, and for the continuing hard work of our volunteers, event partners and staff."

The site had been closed since the incident but reopened to the public on Friday.

A spokesperson for Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome said: "We are continuing to work closely with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and have resumed air operations."
