Tributes to grandmother struck by motorbike
SuppliedThe family of a woman who died when she was hit by a motorbike have described her as their matriarch who "leaves a huge void to fill".
Gillian Livingstone, 75, was crossing Ennerdale Road in Cleator Moor, Cumbria, on the afternoon of 26 May with her grandchild when they were injured.
In a tribute issued by Cumbria Police, her family said she was their "focal point for information, guidance, advice and caring, and will be greatly missed".
Kieran Yorke, 22, from Egremont, has been charged with causing the pensioner's death and injuring the child, as well as being unlicensed and uninsured at the time.
Livingstone was born in South Africa and emigrated to the UK along with her husband, David, in 2007, and after a career in banking settled in Cleator Moor.
The tribute described her love of gardening and all animals, especially cats, and as someone who "wasn't afraid to voice her own opinion".
"Gillian was taken from us in her prime," the statement added.
"We all give thanks and immense gratitude to those who assisted and gave CPR and tried their best to prevent her demise."
Her grandchild is in a stable condition in hospital after receiving a serious head injury.
Yorke, from Woodend, was granted conditional bail at Carlisle Magistrates' Court on 28 May and is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 26 June.
Two other men, aged 22 and 23 respectively, have been bailed pending further inquiries.
