Free one-hour parking has been introduced in several council-run car parks in Doncaster as part of a new trial.

Seven city centre car parks are currently included in the scheme, which started on Monday and will end in March 2027.

Motorists still need to place a ticket on their vehicle or use the RingGo app and select the one-hour option.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, urged shoppers to take advantage of the scheme to support local businesses and help the economy "thrive".

The initial roll-out includes the following car parks:

  • Wood Street Car Park
  • Irish Club Car Park (College Road)
  • Markets Car Park
  • St Georges Car Park
  • Marshgate Car Parks
  • Church Way Car Park
  • Chamber Road Car Park

Car parks on Chappell Gate East and West would be added to the scheme at a later date, the authority said.

The trial formed part of Reform UK's budget amendment, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, which the party forced through with Conservative support in February.

Councillor Howard Rimmer, leader of Reform UK in Doncaster, said the free parking was a "common-sense measure" to help residents and encourage more people to shop locally.

Jones added: "I encourage our residents to visit our city centre, support our local businesses and Doncaster Markets."
