Initial plans for up to 580 homes on village edge
GoogleA housing developer has signalled its intent to build up to 580 homes on the edge of New Whittington.
Harworth Group has submitted documents to Chesterfield Borough Council asking whether an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required as part of a planning application for a housing development on land off Whittington Road.
An EIA sets out the likely environmental impacts of a project and how they can be mitigated.
In documents submitted to the council, the developer said the proposed housing scheme would incorporate a "significant proportion" of open space, including sports areas and community gardens.
The site earmarked for development comprises about 27.9 hectares (68.9 acres) of agricultural fields, according to planning papers.
It is anticipated that an outline planning application for the scheme will be submitted in the autumn, the documents add.
