Inspire brings together five specialist teams to help those with drug or alcohol addiction

A new service has been set up to support people affected by alcohol or drug use.

Inspire started operating for residents across the West Northamptonshire Council area on Wednesday, and it offers free and confidential help to those in need.

Several specialist organisations including Turning Point, Bridge, Family Support Link, Double Impact and Framework, have helped create the service.

Laura Couse, cabinet member for adult care and public health at the Reform UK-led local authority, said it wanted to make sure anyone could "get the right support at the right moment".

The service will operate from sites on Billing Road and Gold Street in Northampton, along with satellite clinics in Daventry, Towcester, Brackley and Brixworth.

People can also refer themselves online, find advice and order naloxone - a medicine that can reverse overdoses.

The service will also support people with mental health issues linked to substance use and raise awareness of the risks of drug-taking.

"Our focus is on helping individuals make positive changes, reconnect with society, and access pathways into training, education and employment," said Sarah Hancock‑Smith, regional head of operations at Turning Point.

If you, or someone you know, has been affected by addiction, BBC Action Line has a list of organisations that may be able to help.
