Overnight road closures for tree removal work

Part of a busy road is to close for five nights to allow trees and vegetation to be cleared as part of a scheme to widen a key junction near East Bridgford.

The A6097 will be shut between Gunthorpe Bridge and the A46 every night from Monday until Saturday morning.

Nottinghamshire County Council said drivers would be diverted via the A46, A617, A614 and A6097 during the closures.

The Kirk Hill junction is set to be widened, with an extra lane added in each direction, as part of a major scheme of improvements along the A614 and A6097.

The vegetation and tree clearance will take place between the Kirk Hill junction and the A46 roundabout.

The county council said the clearance works would help facilitate the widening of the junction, which was previously described as a "real pinch point", and improve visibility.

Work to improve the junction began in August, with Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road closing for a year.

Councillor Bert Bingham, cabinet member for transport and environment, added: "We're making good progress at Kirk Hill in East Bridgford since works officially started just under a month ago.

"We know that news of these clearance works may cause concern within local communities about the loss of habitats and we would like to reassure everyone that a full bird and bat survey has taken place to allow us to progress with these works."
