Police have seized 31 e-scooters that were ridden illegally as part of a crackdown in Derbyshire.

The vehicles were confiscated by officers in public places across the county last month.

Derbyshire Police said more than 700 e-scooters and e-bikes have been removed from public roads and pavements since its "seize first"' approach began in November 2024.

Using e-scooters on public roads is illegal unless they are hired as part of a government-approved scheme, and e-bikes that do not meet legal requirements are illegal.

The force said it moved to a "seize first" approach for illegal e-scooters and e-bikes in November 2024, with no requirement for officers to issue an initial warning at the time of a first offence.

Insp Lee Welsby, from Derbyshire Police, said: "We will continue to be proactive in addressing this issue, which we know matters to many people in our communities.

"If you're considering buying one of these vehicles, our advice is to think again," he added.
