A lamb which had gone "mine exploring" in Derbyshire has been rescued by a group of volunteers.

Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation said a small team attended the mine between Rushop and Sparrowpit in the Peak District on Sunday, after it was contacted by a farmer who found a lamb had entered a mine during Storm Dave.

It said despite the lamb's best efforts to crawl further into the former mine it was scooped up and brought back to the surface.

The rescue team said the lamb was expected to make a full recovery after a few hours in the dark.

A spokesperson for the organisation said it was "happy" to come out to anyone or anything in need of help underground.

"We suspect this won't be the last caving animal of the season," they added.
