An explosive ordnance disposal team was sent to Bridlington's south beach following reports of a suspected device being found

A second suspected explosive device has been found on a beach in East Yorkshire in the space of two days.

HM Coastguard said an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team was sent to an area on Bridlington's south beach earlier.

A spokesperson said the Coastguard was first made aware of the "suspected ordnance" at about 14:10 BST and a cordon was put in place.

They added: "Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team has been sent to ensure public remain at a safe distance."

It comes after a device thought to be a Japanese grenade dating from World War Two was found on the town's north beach on Saturday and detonated by an EOD team later that day.

Some residents in the Foresters Way area of the town were evacuated while a cordon was put in place following the discovery.
