Cause of woodland fire cannot be determined

The cause of a large fire in woodland in Nottinghamshire cannot be determined, the fire service has said.

Nottinghamshire fire crews were called to Strawberry Hill Heath in Rainworth on Saturday, with 12 crews in attendance at the fire's height.

The blaze affected about nine acres (3.6 hectares) of land, but a spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were now preparing to leave the site.

The spokesperson added: "Due to the large area of fire, and the damage, a cause could not be determined."

The service added that reinspections would take place throughout Tuesday to ensure no hotspots reignited.

Strawberry Hill Heath is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to it being one of the last areas of heathland, which once dominated parts of Sherwood Forest.

There have been several wildfires at the location this summer.
