Police investigating an attempted murder at a golf course have been granted extra time to question a teenager in custody.

The victim, a man in his 60s, remained in hospital in a critical but stable condition, following the attack off Newport Road in Stafford at about 19:00 BST on 14 May.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday evening.

On Thursday afternoon, Staffordshire Police said detectives had received a court extension to keep him in custody for an additional 36 hours.

A 30-year-old man was previously arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and public order offences in connection with the investigation, but has since been released on bail.

The force said the victim's family were being supported by specialist officers, and continued to appeal for anyone with information to contact them.
