Railway station ticket office bar moves forward

A licensing application has been submitted as part of plans to transform the former ticket office and hall at Hull's Paragon railway station into a bar.

Hull City Council previously awarded grants of £315,000 to Hull Tap Limited in May 2025 to fund the work.

An planning application to install Hull Tap signage in the station was submitted earlier this year.

The plans have been put forward by Thornbridge & Co, which is seeking to sell alcohol seven days a week.

Since its closure in around 2007, the ticket hall has been used as a cycle park and a mobility scooter hire centre. It was also used by the makers of the 2024 film Blitz.

Part of the site was also previously occupied by WH Smith, which has since moved to a different unit in the station, next to Costa and Starbucks.

The potential opening times for the bar are listed on the application as Monday to Saturday from 09:00 until 00:30 BST and Sunday from 10:00 until 23:30.

Food is also expected to be served and with the venue providing seating for 150 customers.

Grant funding for the regeneration was announced in May last year.

At the time, Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: "The former ticket office has stood vacant for many years so it is pleasing that a large unit will be occupied thanks to grant funding."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, anyone who wishes to comment on the application should write to the council's licensing section no later than 2 July.
