'Mindless' vandals smash up toilets for third time

A town's public toilets have been vandalised for the third time this year.

North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said the temporary facility on Dolphin Gardens, Cleethorpes, were badly damaged at about 03:00 BST on Sunday 10 August.

Councillor Hayden Dawkins, cabinet member for tourism, said: "This is absolutely mindless vandalism.

"The cost to repair and replace will be upwards of £3,000. What have people got to gain by vandalising toilets?"

According to NELC, one toilet was knocked over and four sinks were ripped out.

A group was seen breaking into the compound and committing the damage, before fleeing on bikes in the direction of St Peter's Avenue, the council said.

Dawkins said: "With the cost of the repairs, to keep doing this [making repairs] will become unsustainable if we're not careful.

"It doesn't just affect the council, the local toilet provider has to source new equipment, and that's not fair on them either."

NELC said the incident had been reported to Humberside Police.
