The service is recruiting for firefighters to be on-call for emergency incidents and community initiatives

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service is looking for on-call firefighters.

Vacancies at the Uttoxeter Fire and Police Station are for people available during weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00, the service said.

On-call firefighters are employed to provide cover to their local fire station, responding to a range of emergencies and taking part in community initiatives.

Bobby Civil, who has served in that capacity for 10 years, said the role was important as it helped firefighters attend more incidents and carry out risk visits.

He said: "When I first started the role, I worked nights in a hotel and was on-call during the day.

"The role can work around shifts, family life or other commitments.

"We understand that people have lives outside of firefighting, so we're more than willing to work with you, have a chat and see what pattern could work around you."

The role is open to anyone over the age of 18 who lives or works close to an on-call station.

Civil said: "The job is so exciting, you never know what you're going to be called to.

"I would encourage anyone considering the role to come down and have a chat with us."

Applications close on Friday 10 April.
