Historic museum vandalised three times in a week
David Dixon/GeographA historic mill which houses a textile museum was targeted by vandals in three separate occasions in the last week.
Lancashire County Council - which runs Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, said the attacks were "disappointing" and the first instances of vandalism at the site in Rossendale, over a number of years.
Lancashire Police said enquiries were ongoing.
Repairs were being arranged for the museum and the site remained open to visitors as normal.
'Deeply disappointing'
A statement on Facebook by the Friends of Helmshore Mills Textile Museum said it was "very saddened" about the recent vandalism.
"From what museum staff have told us, the museum has been targeted on three separate occasions, with rocks thrown at windows and damage caused to this important historic site.
"These incidents have reportedly been witnessed by local residents, and the matter has been reported to the police."
It added: "Helmshore Mills is a treasured part of our local heritage, preserving the story of Lancashire's textile industry for future generations. It is much more than a museum building; it is a valued community asset, cared for by dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters.
"It is deeply disappointing to see needless damage being caused to a place that belongs to all of us.
"We would encourage anyone who knows who may be responsible to speak to them and ask them to stop before further damage is done. Likewise, if you witness any suspicious behaviour around the museum, please consider reporting it to the Police.
"Let's all do our part to look after the places that make Helmshore special."
