Tributes paid to cyclist killed in crash with car

Tributes have been paid to a "much-loved" cyclist who died after he was hit by a car in Wakefield.

Nigel Riley, 66, from Horbury, was struck by a grey Omoda 5 SUV on Denby Dale Road, near its junction with Thornes Road, at about 22:05 BST on 15 July.

West Yorkshire Police said he later died in hospital, and are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.

His brother, speaking on behalf of the family, said: "He was a much-loved brother, brother-in-law and friend to many. He will be missed."

Det Sgt Steve Suggitt of West Yorkshire Police said: "Sadly, Nigel Riley passed away in hospital last week.

"It is important that we get answers for his family about the events that have led up to his death.

"This collision has occurred at a major road junction, and we are appealing to anyone who believes they have seen either the Omodo SUV or Nigel's bike before this collision to please get in contact.

"We would also ask any motorists who were in the area and have dashcams fitted to check if they have captured any part of this incident."
