'Energy security outweighing climate concerns globally'

The head of one of Nigeria's biggest energy companies has told the BBC that the Strait of Hormuz crisis has accelerated the move away from renewables towards hydrocarbons as countries 'realise that energy security is a lot more important now than cleaning up the planet.'

Speaking to Zeinab Badawi, Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of oil producer Oando, also said that the Iran conflict has significantly increased the demand for West African oil and gas, as an alternative to supplies from the Middle East, and presented an important opportunity for Africa.
