Why is the Princess of Wales in Italy this week?

The Princess of Wales received an enthusiastic welcome from Italian crowds, on her first visit overseas following her treatment for cancer.

During a walkabout in Reggio Emilia she shook hands and posed for selfies, with some in the noisy crowd holding up babies and flowers, and many others holding up their phones to capture the moment.

It is more than three years since Catherine last appeared at such an event overseas, our senior royal correspondent Daniela Relph told us.
