Skier makes history on inaccessible run

A British climber is thought to be the first person to ski a route deemed inaccessible for more than 40 years in the Peruvian mountains.

Fay Manners, from Blunham village near Bedford, and Italian ski mountaineer Marco Malcangi, completed the expedition on the south-west ridge of Mount Ranrapalca on 28 May.

It is a 20,216ft (6,162m) peak in Peru's Cordillera Blanca mountain range.

Nobody had attempted to ski it due to its "glacial terrain", said Manners.

Earlier this year, she vowed to carry on mountaineering after a "horrifying" experience in the Himalayas in 2024. She completed the north-north-east face of Tête Biselx in France for her 20th expedition in April.
