Rare goats used to trim city grasslands
Rare breed goats are being used as unusual lawnmowers on an area of hard-to-reach land in Leeds.
The Royal Golden Guernsey goats are helping to control shrubs and brambles while maintaining biodiversity on grasslands at Asket Hill, near Roundhay Park.
The goats, supplied by Mossy Oaks at Castle Howard, would be "conservation grazing" at the site as a pilot scheme until 12 November, but were expected to return each year, according to Leeds City Council, which owns the land.
A council spokesperson said: "Asket Hill has been a challenge to look after due to it being very steep and uneven, so getting these goats in is really brilliant and lets us protect our vital biodiversity."
