East Molesey: Rubble fly-tip leads to road closure
Local Democracy Reporting ServiceA pile of rubble fly-tipped near a Surrey primary school has led to a road closure.
Surrey Police confirmed they were called on Monday night regarding a "large amount of rubble" strewn across Vine Road in East Molesey.
They said they attended briefly to help clear the road then passed the incident on.
A spokesperson for Elmbridge Borough Council said its enforcement team would visit the site.
They added: "The fly-tip has been reported to our contractors for clearance and will be dealt with within 24 hours.
"We take fly-tipping incidents very seriously and will investigate every occurrence. If there is enough evidence, we will prosecute the person responsible."
The council said it was launching an anti-litter campaign for the spring and summer to reiterate a strong message that littering and fly-tipping were "not acceptable and will not be tolerated".
Neighbours heard a truck driving down the road at about 23:00 GMT, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The nearby school, St Lawrence Church of England Primary, wrote to parents on Tuesday morning warning of a road closure as a result of the rubbish.
Environmental officers from the council moved the waste to the side of the road and installed barriers to keep traffic away.
